ThyssenKrupp is committed to the goals of sustainable development and is a member of "econsense", a forum of 23 leading German companies and organizations from 10 different sectors who have integrated the concept of sustainable development into their corporate strategies. econsense was founded in July 2002 at the initiative of the Federation of German Industries. The objective is to conduct a dialogue focusing on issues such as "Environment and Natural Resources", "Demography as an Economic Factor", "Global Markets - Global Networks" and "Sustainability in Practice in Companies". In March 2006 the European Commission launched a "European Alliance for CSR" (CSR - corporate social responsibility). This is a network of European companies and business organizations which promotes partnerships for CSR and the exchange of experience in this area. ThyssenKrupp is one of over 100 supporters of this alliance.
